Dear Friends, like everyone else we are adapting to the rapidly changing situation with the corona virus so we can all stay healthy, help protect our community, and do our part to slow the spread of the disease.  We’re looking into online options for April meetings.

Along with the global network and allies, we are exploring creative ways to use digital and social media tools to foster solidarity and continue building the movement for climate justice.

From May Boeve, Executive Director:
How to care for your community in a crisis
” With this new community organising guide for climate activists in the time of coronavirus, we offer creative online solutions and tactics to ensure we don’t deal with this crisis by making others worse.”

Our Salem is planning for Salem’s future.  How do land use and transportation fit together to help us reduce climate-changing emissions even as the city is expected to grow? What would a city look like where all residents can enjoy safe, healthy, active lives in neighborhoods where places to  live, work, shop and play are all within easy reach?  Will Salem evolve in sync with the emerging clean energy economy?   Participation in the Our Salem survey can help  the city answer these questions. Our persistent presence during the Our Salem community process has been an important factor in bringing climate-friendly opportunities to the table.

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of  Earth Day
This year Earth Day is devoted to climate justice

Even though we can’t hold the grand public demonstrations the day deserves, plans are in progress for a massive online presence. Young people, born and raised in the Internet era, are bursting with creative energy and ideas: email blasts, Tweetstorms, hashtags, Facebook Live events and DIY videos, a flood of letters to the editors of mainstream media, selfies with homemade climate art posted everywhere in every sort of social media, and more. This is a chance to learn new techniques, try out new tools, stretch our imaginations, put resilience into practice.
